Dear CSU Vietnam Students,
CSU is implementing a new policy concerning the submission of assignments in your CSU courses.
Despite a number of measures taken by CSU and your professors, the submission of assignments as required by the course schedule has not occurred. More than 70 percent of all assignments were submitted in the last two weeks of the course in the courses that were recently completed, and at the time the course Professors were in Vietnam.
Because of the large influx of assignments during a short period of time, your professors were unable to provide timely grading. This resulted in grades not being submitted to CSU on time, and a large number of you being very upset. Additionally, the large number of assignments coming in at about the same time makes it difficult for the professor to put in the time needed to adequately grade your assignments.
This lateness has caused delays in getting needed feedback to you, causing you to slow down, not completing the course on time, and requiring many of you to request extensions. This results in a situation that is unfair to you and to your professors, and prevents you from achieving a maximum amount of learning.
In an effort to prevent this, Columbia Southern University will be implementing a new policy effective September 1, 2009.
Students in the Vietnam program will be required to submit their assignments according to the course schedule located within each of your courses. Past due assignments will result in the following grade reductions:
- 7 - 13 days past due - 10 points
- 14 - 20 days past due - 20 points
- 21 days or more past due - 50 points
Your professors and I believe this policy is necessary to ensure that students complete the course within the allotted time, allow professors adequate time for grading, and eliminate the need for costly extensions. It is in your best interest, will greatly aid your professors in their grading process, and will result in a much more positive learning environment. Hopefully, you will agree with the above and find that this new policy will result in more efficient and effective learning.
Please let me know if you have any questions on this new policy. I look forward to seeing and talking to you when I visit Vietnam in October.
Best wishes,
